Interpretation of images, text and sound
Media reading skills generally refer to the skills of "reading and writing" various media. Thus it is the skill of interpreting mixtures of text, images and sound. "Writing" is actual production - that is, using text, images and voice narration in audio-visual media texts.

Multimedia narration may employ a variety of elements: sound, still images and video. Sound may refer to various sound effects, music or speech. The purpose of images is to visualise, illustrate and enliven the contents. Images and text are usually constructed to complement each other. Moving pictures and various animations are also applicable as web learning materials. There are many fields of application for digital video: multimedia shows, Internet pages, DVD discs and digital television.

Critical media reading skills?
Narrow media reading skills refer to the ability to use various machines, facilities and media. Functional media reading skills also include the functions of reading and writing - that is, the ability to express oneself, interpret media texts and gather information. At the creative level, one is able to use, apply and evaluate media as necessary. The learning process requires that the learners and teachers have technical facilities and are able to produce information and analyse learning materials. Teaching that utilises information and communications technology also requires the teacher to possess knowledge of web-based pedagogics.

Critical media reading skills mean that the user of information networks learns to distinguish important information from less important information, find the most essential information in a vast mass and establish her own view of things.
